Warner Bros.
Starring: Alan Arkin, James Caan
Directed by: Richard Rush
Synopsis: San Francisco police detectives Freebie (James Caan) and Bean (Alan Arkin) have been building a case against racketeer boss Red Meyers (Jack Kruschen) and go to extreme measures to bring him to justice. They just have to try not to kill each other first.
Kitty Cameo: At the very beginning of the film we can hear a cat meowing over the Warner Bros. logo. The film opens on a row of garbage cans lining a city street. An orange tom cat appears and climbs onto the closed cans.
A moment later a man emerges from one of the buildings, dragging a garbage can to the curb. The cat jumps down off the cans. After the man leaves, a car pulls up to the cans.
Freebie and Bean empty one of the cans into the trunk and then take another can, closed, and put it in the back seat. In the next scene they are sorting the loose garbage in the trunk. Freebie lifts the closed can and pulls off the lid to dump that garbage into the trunk when the orange tom cat leaps out!
The orange tom stands in the trunk until Bean picks him up and puts him outside.
Final Mewsings: Always check garbage cans for cats before stealing them.
