English Title: Juliet of the Spirits
Rizzoli Film
Starring: Giulietta Masina, Sandra Milo, Mario Pisu
Directed by: Federico Fellini
Synopsis: Giulietta (Giulietta Masina) is a loving wife who suspects her husband may be having an affair but the spirits which visit her have conflicting advice on how she should handle the situation.
Kitty Cameos: Giulietta’s home supposedly has several cats around but we really only ever see two of them. The first one is close to the beginning of the film when the maids are helping Giulietta prepare for an anniversary dinner with her husband. One maid picks up a big black furry cat from the bed and sets it on the floor.
The second cat is a white, black and gray cat which is seen in several scenes. The first time is in the lap of one of the visitors on Guilietta’s anniversary when the other guests are preparing to have a seance.
This cat is seen again in one of the maid’s laps as they sit and watch Giulietta’s sister on television.
Giulietta’s husband Giorgio (Mario Pisu) then joins them.
Featured Feline: The most prominent cat in the film is a large gray long-haired cat which shows up unexpectedly in Giulietta’s yard wearing a red ribbon.
A tag on the ribbon reads Suzy, which is Giulietta’s flamboyant neighbor (Sandra Milo). Giulietta takes the cat over to Suzy’s home.
As Giulietta enters the grounds of the large estate she comments to the cat what a grand home he has.
Giulietta carries the cat inside and Suzy appreciates her bringing him back.
The cat is seen during the first parts of Giulietta’s visit but disappears after that.
Final Mewsings: Cats are usually more nervous around spirits.
