Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: A group of female high school friends in Inchon, South Korea, try to keep their friendship going in spite of taking greatly varied paths toward their futures.
Cinema Cat: The title refers to a tiny tabby cat named Titi (pronounced Tee Tee) which is found by Ji-young (Ji-young Ok), a girl living in one of the poorer districts with her grandparents.
Ji-Young gives Titi to Hye-ju (Yo-won Lee) as a birthday gift.
Hye-ju tends to look down on Ji-Young and insults her financial situation and status in life. She brings Titi back to her the next day, saying she doesn’t have time to care for the kitten since she is busy with her job and with moving.
Titi remains with Ji-Young in her grandparent’s dilapidated and dangerous shack. The two form a tight bond.
When tragedy strikes, Ji-Young turns to Titi for comfort.
Later Ji-Young gives Titi to the one girl in the group who has been a true friend, Tae-hie (Doona Bae) to care for when she can’t.
Tae-hie eventually gives Titi to the twins Bi-ryu (Eung-sil Lee) and Ohn-jo (Eung-ju Lee) when she strikes out on her own. In this way Titi has been owned by each of the girls in turn.
Kitty Cameo: In one scene Ji-Young is in juvenile detention at night. She hears a cat meowing and looks out the window where she sees a black and white tuxedo kitten.
Kitty Carnage Warning! There is one scene towards the end of the film in which the twins are watching a report on television about how some wild cats were found eating another cat. Some graphic images are shown briefly on the screen.
Final Mewsings: Kittens can only be shared commodities between close friends.
