Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Jim Hadley (Alan Ladd) leads a group of loggers into a small town where they are unwelcome, mostly because they plan to strip the neighboring hills of their woods.
Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): In one scene Jim heads to town where the people are now being overly polite. He stops to talk to the railway stationmaster Bill Burroughs (Paul E. Burns) who is writing something. A longhaired tabby and white cat sits beside him.
After finally getting Burroughs’ attention, the man tells Jim (a little too gleefully) that no telegram has arrived for him yet. The cat seems distracted, looking upward. It’s likely that when the camera pans from Jim to Burroughs the boom mike followed and that may be what has attracted the cat’s attention.
In the last shot the cat is looking back toward the station.
Kitty Cameo: A short time later Jim accompanies ranch owner Laura Riley (Jeanne Crain) to a ghost town. As they dismount in the town, a ginger tabby cat appears from a building and skitters away.
Final Mewsings: Cats are fascinated with the art of movie making.
