Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains spoilers for this episode!
Synopsis: McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin) and Danno (Scott Caan) investigate a mysterious death while also trying to find a home for Mr. Pickles the cat.
Featured Feline: The episode begins with McGarrett and Danno attending the reading of the will of a rich woman whose apartment they previously used for a stakeout (see episode Kuka’awale). There they meet Ricky Schiff (Charlie Saxton), the shiftless dude they met during the stakeout who was hired to take care of the woman’s precious white Angora cat, Mr. Pickles. As it turns out, the woman has left her priceless glass cat collection to the officers while Ricky is given custody of Mr. Pickles.
Because Ricky is currently on probation, the lawyer suggests a new home be found for Mr. Pickles. McGarrett, who likes cats, points out that he has a dog named Eddie that doesn’t play well with small animals. Danno, who insists he hates cats, does not want Mr. Pickles. They end up driving both Ricky and Mr. Pickles back to their headquarters where Ricky is given the job of finding Mr. Pickles a permanent home by the end of the day.
McGarret and Danno are not impressed with the first ad Ricky designs for the internet.
Ricky tries to get involved in the latest case but is quickly shot down.
Later Ricky accuses Dano of being a secret cat lover, but Danno adamantly denies it.
In the end when no home can be found, McGarrett ends up taking Mr. Pickles home where he seems to be getting along fairly well with the dog Eddie. It isn’t until the last seconds of the show that we are told (rather than see) that Mr. Pickles is heading to Eddie’s food bowl. McGarrett has to leap from the couch to try to catch the dog while the cat screeches offscreen and Danno cringes.
We believe that cat actors Liy and Ghost, trained by Sue Chipperton of Check the Gate, a Hawaiian-based company for animal actors, reprised their roles for this episode.
Final Mewsings: Make sure to provide for your animals in your will!
