Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: The comic book character Hellboy (Ron Perlman) is found as a child and raised by Trevor “Broom” Bruttenholm (John Hurt) to work for the FBI battling evil demons.
Cat Cattle Call: When Hellboy is first found he is near a grave which has a statue of a cat on it.
Later when new recruit Agent John Myers (Rupert Evans) is first introduced to Hellboy he is escorted into a secure room. The room is where Hellboy lives and is filled with cats.
Hellboy’s fondness for cats knows no bounds.
When Liz (Selma Blair) enters the room for the first time in a while she comments on how many more cats there now are.
The cats are also present when Hellboy breaks out of his room. One of the agents is seen holding a black cat.
Cat Burglars (Scene Stealers): In the middle of the film Hellboy is battling a nasty demon in a subway station. The fight sends bystanders scrambling and one girl (Andrea Stuart) cries out, “Someone save my kittens!” There is a crate of kittens in the middle of the subway platform.
Hellboy scoops up the box and continues to fight the demon with one hand. At one point the young woman cries for him to be careful of the kittens and he answers, “Lady, give me a break!”
After the fight, Hellboy returns the box to the relieved woman, who thanks him. “It’s my job,” he answers, and pets one of the kittens on the head.
