Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: A French actress named Elle (Emmanuelle Riva) has an affair with Japanese architect Lui (Eiji Okada) surrounded by the city and history of Hiroshima, Japan.
Kitty Cameos: Near the beginning of the film various footage of Hiroshima during and after the nuclear bomb are seen. In a modern day shot a multicolored Japanese bobtail walks across the screen.
Later Lui finds Elle on the movie set. She is lying on the ground resting beside a small white cat.
After they have talked for a while, Elle sits back down and pets the cat as their conversation continues.
Finally Elle is recounting her life as a young girl in France when she was locked in her parents’ cellar for having been with a German soldier. She says a cat would come into the cellar but she didn’t mind. She is then seen staring at a black cat which is looking at her.
Final Mewsings: Cats are smart to stay away from war.
