Mack Sennett Comedies
Starring: Billy Bevan, Vernon Dent, Andy Clyde
Also Starring: Pussums
Directed by: Harry Edwards
Synopsis: Happily married Billy (Billy Bevan) sets his fellow traveling salesman Homer (Vernon Dent) up on a date but a case of mistaken identity causes chaos and comedy.
Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): Pussums the cat undoubtedly steals this short in a small scene in which she is seen playing checkers with Homer’s new father-in-law (Andy Clyde).
The interaction between the cat and the board is achieved by clever editing and some kind of enticement which caused Pussums to paw at the board. An insert of a cat’s paw moving the checkers completes the illusion.
Pussums trounces her game adversary at every turn, and even seems to react to Andy Clyde as they play.
This is a very clever segment which showcases Pussums screen charisma beautifully.
Final Mewsings: Cats are in it to win it.
