Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Scientist Wayne Szalinski (Rick Moranis) has all but given up on his shrink ray machine when an accident causes it to work and shrink his and the neighbor’s kids.
Featured Feline: Wayne’s neighbors are the Thompson family and they own a black and white tuxedo cat named Spike. The father, Russ Thompson (Matt Frewer) rushes outside one morning to complain about the noise coming from the Szalinski home. Spike is sitting on a railing outside when he exits.
Later Russ sneaks a cigarette and talks briefly to Spike about his troubles.
The kids, who have all been shrunk, are trying to make their way across the Szalinski back yard which is like a jungle to them. They get the idea to call Quark, the Szalinki’s dog, to come get them but then they spot Spike jumping over the fence.
Spike chases Quark away, leaving the kids to fend for themselves.
The Thompsons are concerned about their missing sons and Russ is upset about the camping trip they are likely to miss. Russ is tying feathers to fishing flies and Spike is sitting beside him on the couch.
Russ accidentally attaches a feather to his finger and waves it around trying to get it off. Spike cringes but does not move at this sudden action.
Towards the end Quark has finally picked up the kids and is taking them back to the house. But Spike is sitting on the porch waiting for him.
Spike hisses at Quark.
Quark finally gets brave and barks at Spike, who does a double take and then runs away.
Final Mewsings: Even cat bullies need to be put in their place.
