Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: When Maximo (Eugenio Derbez) finds he has become a disenfranchised middle-aged gigolo, he contacts his estranged sister (Salma Hayek) for help until he can make his next great conquest.
Cat Cattle Call: At one point Maximo gets a job at a frozen yogurt shop run by a woman named Cindy (Kristen Bell). Cindy is constantly showing up for work covered in bandages and refers to her countless rescue cats. When Maximo eventually goes to her home for help, he meets the countless cats first hand. And Cindy is sporting even more bandages.
Maximo is shocked when an orange and white cat crawls up his back in the doorway.
During the following scene the two are surrounded by many many cats.
When Maximo realizes that Cindy doesn’t want sex in exchange for helping him it is a huge wake up call for him.
This has to be our favorite cat in the whole scene!
Maximo points out that the cats are always hurting Cindy but she explains that they are her family.
At the end of the scene a white cat appears behind Maximo. Cindy comments, “Huh … I’ve never seen that one before.”
In a later scene, Maximo sits down to write a letter. Three cats share the desk space with him, one just walking through.
Finally Cindy is seen washing a long-haired cat in a sink. She is sporting an eye patch this time and the cat growls at her. This was dubbed in and according to reports the cat was perfectly happy being washed.
In one cut scene right before Maximo goes to Cindy’s home he is walking dejectedly down the street when a light brown tabby rubs up against his legs. This makes him think of turning to Cindy for help. The cat actors were provided by Hollywood Animals.
Final Mewsings: Crazy cat lady scenes may be a bit overdone lately but they keep cat actors gainfully employed!
