Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Members of the Travis family deal with inner demons and a lack of communication when their promising eldest son commits suicide.
Kitty Cameo: Tim Travis (Emile Hirsch) is the younger brother who struggles with his feelings and those of his family around him. He is walking home from school after being beaten not once but twice. As he walks down the street, he is holding a gray cat which he pets briefly and then sets down.
There is no explanation as to how he came to be holding the cat, where it came from, why he picked it up, where it goes after he sets it down or really anything else.
Update: Writer / director Dan Harris was kind enough to tweet an explanation for the cat’s appearance: “He’d been following Emile during all the rehearsal takes. Emile was playing stoned so he just picked him up.” Thanks, Dan, for this inside information!
Final Mewsings: Sometimes cats in movies just can’t be explained . . . or maybe they can!
Many thanks to Mark Murton for letting us know about the cat in this film.
