by Linda Kay
Original Title: Au nom de la loi
Directed by: Maurice Tourneur
Synopsis: A policeman is murdered in France, and a beautiful woman named Sandra (Marcelle Chantal) is the prime suspect.
Cat Burglars (Scene Stealers): The police raid a dilapidated hideout to nab a suspect and some evidence. As the officers stand outside the door, the audience sees inside the room where a calico cat and ginger tabby kitten are eating food which has been left on a table.
As the police break through the door, the calico leaps from the table and runs but the kitten doesn’t seem particularly concerned.
The police find and wrestle with the suspect who fires off a gun, sending the calico cat running again, this time out the door.
After subduing the man, the police search the shack. One officer notices a pair of work shoes moving behind a curtain. He pulls the cloth aside to reveal several kittens playing inside and around the footwear.
Final Mewsings: Cats don’t have the ability to ask for warrants from the police.
