Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: John Wick (Keanu Reeves) finds himself excommunicado with the world’s top assassins out to claim the enormous bounty on his head.
Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): The Adjudicator (Asia Kate Dillon) pays a visit to assassin Zero (Mark Dacascos) at his sushi restaurant in Japan. A tuxedo cat is lying on the end of the counter.
The cat belongs to Zero, who is a cat lover (a perfect foil for John Wick, who loves dogs). Zero even feeds his cat a piece of sushi before getting down to business.
The cat doesn’t do much but lie on the counter and be cute but still somehow manages to draw attention from the intense converstion going on between Zero and the Adjudicator.
At the end of the scene the Adjudicator slides her marker off the counter, causing the cat to look up from its nap.
The cat actor (possibly named Earl) in this scene was trained by Kim Krafsky and is possibly the brother of cat actor Towne who played such a notable role in Can You Ever Forgive Me?
Even more memorable for the cast and crew were the stray cats that invaded the set during the big dog fight sequence shot in Essaouira in Morocco. The town apparently has a large feral cat population and the cats came out in droves during the shoot, distracting the dog actors during filming.
Final Mewsings: Cats don’t have to stand for sushi.
Many thanks to The Horror Cats for letting us know about the cat in this film!
