Universal Pictures
Starring: Rachael Leigh Cook, Rosario Dawson, Tara Reid
Directed by: Harry Elfont, Deborah Kaplan
Synopsis: Big screen adaptation of the Archie comic book and Saturday morning cartoon characters finds the band signed by a big record company who plans to add subliminal advertising behind their music.
Kitty Cameos: In a few brief shots in the beginning and end of the film the girls are seen with cats. During the intro montage to Josie’s character she is seen composing with a long-haired gray kitten in the foreground.
All of the girls are then seen with a group of long-haired gray kittens. Melody enters holding a tabby cat, much to the dismay of Josie (who probably thinks they have enough cats.)
Two more shots of the latter set up with the girls and the cats are shown at the end of the film.
What’s glaringly missing from this adaptation is Sebastian, Alexandra’s mischievous black and white cat who was a regular character in both the comics and animated series.
Final Mewsings: How can you have Josie and the Pussycats without Sebastian?
