Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: A remake of the French film Un indien dans la ville. Michael Cromwell (Tim Allen) finds out he has a teenaged son living among a South American tribe and brings the boy named Mimi-Siku (Sam Huntington) to New York City for a visit.
Featured Feline: Michael’s fiancee Charlotte (Lolita Davidovich), a fashion designer, owns a white Persian cat named Coco. Coco is first seen sleeping on the couch at a party thrown by Charlotte.
Charlotte picks up Coco to take her into the kitchen to feed.
Charlotte’s friend, Fiona (Carole Shelley), enters the kitchen to find out what they’re having to eat. Mimi-Siku suggests eating the cat. Naturally Charlotte is against this. Fiona and the party guests are later shocked to find Mimi-Siku crouched on the counter eating the cat’s food.
As if this weren’t enough, Michael makes a point of telling Mimi-Siku not to eat the cat the next morning at breakfast.
In a later scene, Michael is home with Charlotte when she leaves the room. He decides to try Mimi-Siku’s blowgun and accidentally ends up shooting a dart into Coco.
The dart puts Coco to sleep.
During this scene, Coco is represented by a stuffed cat made to looking like the sedated Persian. Michael picks up the limp “animal” and tries to revive her with no luck. He finally just throws her behind the island in the kitchen.
The next morning the cat is fine and Michael comments on how Coco slept like a log that night.
It should be noted that the translation of Mimi-Siku, which the boy picked for his own name, is cat pee. Or maybe that shouldn’t be noted.
Final Mewsings: Coco was lucky to sleep during this movie!
