Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Ted Morgan (Seann William Scott) is a guy who has given up on life and plans to kill himself but makes one last trip to his hometown to stand up to those who oppressed him.
Kitty Cameo: One of the people Ted wants to confront is his former teacher Mrs. Lawrence (Beth Grant) who constantly berated and ridiculed him in class. He goes to the nursing home where she is living and asks for her. Heading to the woman’s room, he passes a gray cat sitting in the hallway.
Finding Mrs. Lawrence sitting up in bed, Ted begins to call her all kinds of names and scream at her, but she just smiles. Her granddaughter Greta (Olivia Thirlby) walks in, shocked to find a strange man yelling at her grandmother. As they are talking, the gray cat comes in the doorway.
Greta is scared as the cat jumps up on the bed but Mrs. Lawrence happily pets the cat. Greta explains that “Death Kitty” means the demise of anyone whose bed the cat sleeps on.
After a few anxious moments, Death Kitty jumps down from the bed and leaves the room.
Later in the film Greta and Ted have spent more time together. Greta has agreed to let Ted confront her grandmother during one of the woman’s more lucid periods. But as they walk down the hallway they see Death Kitty scurry from the room. Sure enough, Mrs. Lawrence has passed away.
Final Mewsings: Cats can’t help it if they can predict death.
