Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains spoilers for this episode!
Synopsis: Eve (Sandra Oh) is on a mission to get revenge against the Twelve, and Villanelle (Jodie Comer), desperate to change, has joined a church community. Meanwhile, Carolyn (Fiona Shaw), moved sideways into an embassy role by MI6, is focused on getting back in the game.
Kitty Cameo: Villanelle is residing as live-in ward to the church’s vicar (Steve Oram) and his daughter May (Zinzi Hudson). As the trio say grace the family’s female black cat, Lucifer, enters the room.
Lucifer approaches Villanelle but when the cat gets close she suddenly hisses violently at Villanelle.
May quickly gathers Lucifer up and carries her out of the room.
Later, Villanelle is in the bathroom kneeling by the bath, praying (“Let me have a new life. Please.”), as Lucifer comes in behind her.
The cat cries and Villanelle turns to look at her.
Speaking gently, Villanelle picks her up.
But again Lucifer hisses violently at her and, shocked and surprised, Villanelle spins around and hurls the cat away. The cat lets out a Poor Cat Screech as it flies across the room.
Kitty Carnage Warning! Following a sickening thud and a splash, Villanelle stands staring in horror at the body of Lucifer floating in the bath as the water around her turns red. Fortunately it is fairly clear that the cat she hurled and the cat in the bathtub are both fake.
Villanelle quietly disposes of the body but Lucifer makes one final appearance when at the rehearsal ceremony for Villanelle’s forthcoming baptism the housekeeper, Pam (Cecilia Noble), enters the church and dramatically throws a carrier bag containing Lucifer’s remains onto the floor.
Final Mewsings: This is one cat who would have been happy with just a dunking.
