Koshechka (1968)

by Linda Kay

English Title: Kitty

Directed by: N.Konstantinov

Synopsis: Considered to be one of the first examples of computer animation, this Russian film shows a cat walking and looking at the camera.

Cartoon Cat: This short film was created by a group of Soviet physicists and mathematicians using a BESM-4 computer. The drawings were created using letters (much the same way we used to draw using typewriters) which were then printed onto sheets and filmed in standard animation style.
