Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Thanks to a Native American brain transference serum, Dr. Jack Hammond (Dudley Moore) and his son Chris (Kirk Cameron) trade brains and learn about the daily problems each other faces.
Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): Chris’ friend Trigger (Sean Astin) is the one who brings over the serum in a Tabasco bottle. Chris is worried that Trigger wants him to try it, but Trigger has other ideas. He looks over the balcony at the Hammond family cat, a calico named Seymour (a rare male calico??) “Hello, Seymour. I have a little present for you!” Trigger coos.
Chris and Trigger get Seymour and the Hammond’s dog together and give the cat some licks of the serum.
The cat actor starts when looking at the dog, acting beautifully in selling the brain transference happening.
The dog starts to whine and mew like a cat and Seymour barks like a dog, then chases the dog away. Trigger and Chris are blown away that it actually worked.
Dr. Hammond comes home and makes himself a Bloody Mary, accidentally putting some of the serum into his drink thinking it is Tabasco sauce. This causes Dr. Hammond and Chris to switch brains. Both are shocked about what has happened. When Trigger explains about the brain transference serum, Dr. Hammond starts to insist, “There’s no such thing as a brain transference . . . ” That’s when Seymour jumps up on the counter, barking and growling at them.
The animal trainer on the film was Paul Calabria.
Final Mewsings: Cats would prefer to keep their brains to themselves!
Many thanks to Mark Murton for reminding us of the cat in this film.
