Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: When Jack Byrnes (Robert DeNiro) has a health scare he asks Greg (Ben Stiller) to step up to take over the role as patriarch of the family, leaving Greg scrambling to try to prove he’s up to the task while putting on a party to celebrate his twins’ fifth birthday.
Cinema Cat: All of the original actors reprised their roles for this threequel, including Mr. Jinx. Unfortunately Mr. Jinx (nor anyone else in the cast) really has much of a chance to shine in this very weak and unfunny film. We first see Mr. Jinx in his usual place in Jack’s secret home workspace when Jack has his first minor heart attack. At the twins’ birthday party, Kevin (Owen Wilson) surprises Jack by having flown Mr. Jinx out for the festivities.
Mr. Jinx then tries to eat Henry’s (Colin Baiocchi) pet lizard, Arthur. Nothing much happens with the sequence, which falls far short of Mr. Jinx’s comedic scenes in the first two films.
Mr. Jinx is again seen at the end of the film in the usual “Jack watches a Greg video” sequence.
Final Mewsings: When a movie series is stretched this far, even the cat can’t help.
