Directed by: Robert F. McGowan
Synopsis: The gang have formed a secret society and induct the new kid, Joe (Joe Cobb) into the group, but their initiation is interrupted when car thieves decide to use their barn as a hideout.
Cat Burglars (Scene Stealers): While the kids are getting together for the initiation meeting of the Cluck Cluck Klams (there are some very politically incorrect things in this short but fortunately the segment we are focusing on has none), Mickey (Mickey Daniels) and Jackie (Jackie Condon) are stuck at home doing their music lessons by order of their mother. Jackie is playing a large saxophone and at first seems to have trouble getting any sound out of it. We see it is because a kitten is inside the instrument and pops out.
Jackie removes the kitten and sets it down on the floor.
Later while Mickey is playing the piano a piece of string falls partway from his pocket and dangles to the floor. A group of kittens start playing with the string. Mickey pauses to watch them.
Mom calls out that she doesn’t hear any music. Mickey puts the string on the keys and keeps playing. When the kittens play with the string, they pull down on the piano key.
This gives Mickey the brilliant idea to rig the piano with string so that the kittens can make it sound like he’s still playing!
Final Mewsings: Kittens don’t have to be on the keys to be musical.
