Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: No nonsense, hard-boiled cop Mac (Gene Hackman) is paired with Ellis (Dan Ackroyd), a brilliant detective with a split-personality disorder. Chaos ensues when Ellis’s disorder kicks in during their investigations in this crime comedy.
Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): Mac is currently homeless (allegedly due to a fire) and is living in his car along with all his possessions and his pet calico cat, Camus. Camus is first seen at a murder scene as Mac emerges from the high reeds by a river carrying the kitty who sports a gorgeous orange and black blaze across the nose.
Mac cradles the cat as he discusses the case with his Captain (Dick O’Neill) and colleagues.
Camus is next seen when Mac and Ellis are in Mac’s over-stuffed car and Ellis lifts up the carrier as he informs Mac that he is allergic to cats.
Camus’s final appearance comes when Mac arrives at the police station along with the cat carrier. He puts it on the counter as he banters with Officer Rachel (S. Espatha Merkerson).
The conversation ends with Rachel agreeing to take care of Camus until Mac finds a new place to live. Consequently, Camus isn’t seen again.
Final Mewsings: The cat was probably happy to get out of this film early.
Many thanks to Nick Wale for also letting us know about the cat in this film.
