Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Based on the novel by Gabriel García Márquez. Florentino Ariza (Javier Bardem) is a young man when he falls in love with Fermina Urbino (Giovanna Mezzogiorno) and even though fate keeps them apart his devotion to her spans decades.
Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): Although Florentino loves Fermina he still manages to bed a vast amount of women in his lifetime. One of his many conquests is Sara Noriega (Laura Harring) who invites him back to her home after meeting him at a poetry competition. A ginger Persian cat sits on the table nearby.
As they start to make love the pair drop to the floor. The cat watches them before leaping down and scratching Florentino on the backside.
Apparently the cat enjoys attacking Florentino when he makes love to Sara, as evidenced by the bandaged scratches on his back and the cat snoozing peacefully nearby in a later scene.
Final Mewsings: Cats like to be included in their owner’s activities.
Many thanks to Jack for letting us know about the cat in this film.
