Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Paul Matthews (Tate Donovan) and Diane Farrow (Sandra Bullock) are two nerdy scientists who have the chance to experiment with a potent love potion, the effect of which changes both of their lives.
Featured Feline: Paul owns a tabby cat which is first seen inside Paul’s stereo cabinet in his living room.
Shortly afterward, Paul is holding the cat above an overturned garbage can and scolding the animal, saying, “This is bad! Bad!” This sets up what is to follow, as Paul throws away the love potion sample given to him by the gypsy fortune teller as he is picking up the garbage.
After this there is a scene where the cat is with Paul on the couch. Paul pets the cat as he is talking on the phone.
Later the cat is seen sneaking into the kitchen to get into the garbage again.
As the contents of the can spill on the floor, some milk from a bottle drips onto the potion sample and the cat laps it up. A falling can startles the cat, keeping it from drinking more.
The cat then jumps to a windowsill and meows.
Cat Cattle Call: This sets off a reaction from all of the neighborhood cats.
Paul wakes up to find his living room invaded by countless cats with more coming in. Forty cat actors were used in this scene, all of them neutered males.
Paul’s cat is hiding inside the stereo system cabinet.
The cat is only seen a couple of times after this, once at Paul’s feet when he is sad.
And eating out of a chip bag as Paul lays, depressed, on the floor.
Final Mewsings: Cats don’t need enhancements to find mates.
