Directed by: Ralph Thomas
Synopsis: Miranda the Mermaid (Glynis Johns) returns in this sequel which features a schoolteacher look-alike (also Glynis Johns) who moves to a small cottage in Cornwall which she has inherited, only to find a cove beneath where Miranda and her friend Berengaria (Dora Bryan) take refuge. Miranda once again connives her way into the human world with the help of the returning Nurse Carey (Margaret Rutherford) and proceeds to seduce men right and left.
Purr Blur: As in the first Miranda movie, the cats in this film appear for only a moment and have no bearing upon the plot whatsoever, which still strikes us as a missed opportunity (we never even get to see Miranda interact with these cats, which could have been quite interesting!) This time it’s a mother cat and her kittens which are sitting on a chair in the cottage when Nurse Carey enters with her cage full of songbirds. Nurse Carey eyes the cats warily and then makes her way to her room, warning the cats not to even try to get to her birds.
Final Mewsings: What exactly would happen if a cat met a mermaid? The world may never know.
