Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains spoilers for this episode!
Synopsis: Gloria (Sofía Vergara) surprises Jay (Ed O’Neill) on his birthday with some shocking news; Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and Cameron (Eric Stonestreet) debate about getting a kitten for Lily (Aubrey Anderson-Emmons).
Kitty Cameos: The season opener finds Mitchell and Cameron still feeling bad that they weren’t able to adopt a little brother for Lily, but she calmly asks if she can have a cat instead. She had picked out the name Larry for the baby and decides that will be the name of the cat instead. They take Lily to an adoption fair and pick out a little gray kitten.
There are other kittens barely seen in the background in a cage.
The adoption worker (Emily Happe) explains that they will need to fill out forms to prove they will be good parents to the cat. This brings up bad memories of the failed adoption for Mitchell and he takes Lily to the car. Cameron stays behind to give the woman a piece of his mind, but she is startled moments later by a shocking sight (which we won’t spoil here) that makes them seem like questionable parents at best.
The gray kitten is not adopted but at the end of the show time has passed and it is implied that they have adopted a cat named Larry by the scratches on Mitchell’s face. Larry would not appear in the fur until a later episode.
Final Mewsings: The kitten didn’t really look like a Larry anyway.
Many thanks to Stevie Holcomb for letting us know about Larry the cat in this series!
