Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Cartoonist Stu Miley (Brendan Fraser) has an accident and ends up in a coma, leading him into the bizarre world of his own creation.
Kitty Cameos: In one sequence, a bassett hound named Buster is sprayed with nightmare juice. The resulting nightmare finds the dog strapped down to a table with a group of menacing country cat people who are preparing to “fix” the dog via hedge clippers.
The cats used for this segment were placed inside veterinary restraint mechanisms which were then placed inside the suits. This was done so the cats would not move around and harm themselves. The trainers worked with the cats over several weeks to acclimate them to this kind of special effect.
Final Mewsings: Being stuck inside a giant human-shaped suit sounds like a cat’s nightmare!
Many thanks to Nick Wale for letting us know about the cats in this film!
