Twentieth Century Fox
Starring: Robin Williams, Sally Field
Directed by: Chris Columbus
Synopsis: Daniel Hillard (Robin Williams) wants to spend more time with his kids after getting divorced so he disguises himself as an elderly female housekeeper.
Cartoon Cat: At the beginning of the film Daniel is in a dubbing session doing the voice-overs for an animated cartoon which is similar to the Sylvester and Tweety cartoons. The little bird’s name is Pudgy Parakeet and he is being stalked by Grunge the cat.
Grunge catches Pudgy and plans to cook him. Pudgy asks if he doesn’t get one phone call but Grunge offers him a cigarette instead. This is when Daniel starts to change the dialogue to make it sound like Pudgy is disgusted by the cigarette. Daniel protests the depiction of smoking in the cartoon, leading to him walking out of the session.
The full five minute cartoon, the animation for which was supervised by Chuck Jones, was released as a DVD extra and can be found on YouTube.
Final Mewsings: Cartoon cats shouldn’t promote smoking.
