Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Based on a true story. Kate Soffel (Diane Keaton) is the wife of a prison warden who takes pity on the Biddle brothers, Ed (Mel Gibson) and Jack (Matthew Modine), when they face the death penalty for murder.
Cat Burglars (Scene Stealers): After helping the boys to escape from prison, Kate accompanies them in their flight. They end up stopping at a farmhouse where they are unknown and welcome. Jack is seen sleeping on the couch with several tabby kittens in his arms.
When the elderly woman of the farm finds out that the people in her home are the wanted fugitives, she is shocked. Jack enters the kitchen carrying a large, long-haired tabby cat. The woman hurries to him and yanks the cat from his arms before running out the door.
Still carrying the cat, the woman seeks help at the general store where the police are called.
The Biddles and Kate leave the home with the locals watching, including the woman with the cat.
As the Biddles ride away on a sleigh, Jack Biddle has a tabby cat cuddled on his lap underneath his coat. The fate of the cat is not known, as the police soon take chase and the cat is not seen again.
Final Mewsings: Cats don’t usually ask for background checks.
