Synopsis: Baron Hieronymus von Münchhausen (Hans Albers) and his wife (Käthe Haack) live in modern Germany. This Baron Münchhausen is a descendant of the famous Baron Münchhausen of the late 18th century. The Baron is visited by two guests to whom he tells of his fantastic adventures and romances, first in Germany, then in Russia as an officer for the Empress Catherine, then to Turkey where he rescues an Italian princess, then to Venice where he loses the princess, then to the Moon where he meets a Moon Maid, and then back to Germany and the present.

Kitty Cameo: Just before the Baron leaves Germany for Russia, he visits a restaurant. He congratulates the proprietor on the food when a black cat lying next to a window wakes up.

The cat is next to the window where outside a coach with a man inside it arrives.

When the man enters the restaurant the cat snarls. The man is Count Cagliostro (Ferdinand Marian), the notorious wizard and sorcerer, who has come to see the Baron to propose a scheme.
