Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains minor spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Julia Ross (Nina Foch) applies with a new agency and gets a job as a live-in secretary to the elderly Mrs. Hughes (Dame May Whitty), but things are not as they seem. It soon becomes clear Mrs. Hughes and her son Ralph (George Macready) have sinister plans for Julia and soon she finds herself struggling for both her sanity and her life!
Kitty Cameo: During one of the first nights Julia stays at the Cornwall house she is awakened by the sound of someone in her room. Seeing a pair of glowing eyes in the mirror she throws an object at it, causing it to shatter. When everyone enters her room they insist she was imagining things and then Mrs. Mackie (Doris Lloyd) points out that the eyes were probably those of a black cat which is sitting on the fireplace hearth.
Later in the film, Julia hears the cat somewhere behind the walls and is able to discover a secret passageway. Even though the cat’s appearance in this film is brief, he still made it onto the movie poster!
Final Mewsings: Cats eyes in the night should be soothing, not scary.
