Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: An arrogant and obnoxious college professor named Eli Michaelson (Alan Rickman) gets an even bigger head when he wins the Nobel Prize, clouding out most of his concern for his son Barkley (Bryan Greenberg) who has been kidnapped by someone asking for the two million dollar cash prize that comes with the honor.
Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): Barkley has a crush on a kooky poet / artist who goes by the name of City Hall (Eliza Dushku). She takes Barkley back to her apartment and they go to the rooftop to make out on a bed which is there. As they are getting intimate, a ginger tabby cat suddenly jumps up on the wall nearby.
City introduces the cat as Marvel and explains he is a thief, that things go missing when he is around. The cat then scurries away.
Now one would think this was a setup for something to happen later, that Marvel the cat would walk away with something key to the story. But in fact Marvel only shows up for one very brief spring-loaded cat moment when the kidnapper (Shawn Hatosy) goes to her apartment to find a disturbing scene. Marvel drops down from somewhere above and that is it.
Animal wrangling for the film was provided by A2Z Animals.
Final Mewsings: Cats with potential story lines don’t like being passed over.
