Synopsis: In this episode of the long-running BBC sitcom, Lee (Lee Mack) is confined to a wheelchair after knee surgery and takes to observing his neighbours through a pair of binoculars to pass the time.

Featured Feline: The highlight of Lee’s morning is when a brown tabby cat, Mr. Snuffles, belonging to an elderly woman (Sally Sanders) living in the street, arrives to urinate in the garden of the house opposite.

And each morning the owner, Stuart (Tony Gardner) hides in wait to throw water at him, always just missing, as Mr Snuffles makes his escape.

Then one morning Mr. Snuffles no longer appears. Soon the elderly woman is seen on her mobility scooter putting up “Missing Cat” posters.

Lee becomes convinced Stuart has killed Mr. Snuffles and buried him in his garden. Seeking proof, Lee goes out in the middle of the night to dig up the newly planted rose bush in Stuart’s garden, and duly finds the cat’s body.

The next day Stuart comes around to confront Lee, telling him Mr. Snuffles was his cat and accusing Lee of killing him. All becomes clear when the elderly woman, Monica, who is in fact Stuart’s mother-in-law and has been living with him, arrives and admits, unapologetically, she accidentally ran over Mr. Snuffles on her mobility scooter.

Final Mewsings: Not going out is clearly the safest policy for some cats.
