Joseph M. Schenck Productions
Starring: Buster Keaton, Natalie Talmadge, Joe Roberts
Directed by: Buster Keaton, Jack Blystone
Synopsis: A young man named Willie McKay (Buster Keaton) returns to the Appalachians to inherit his family’s estate, only newly aware of the long-standing feud between his family and the Canfields, who are still gunning for the last McKay.
Purr Blur: The beginning of the film shows the killing of Willie’s father, John McKay, which takes place when Willie is only one year old. (An interesting sidenote, the infant Willie is played by Buster Keaton’s actual son.) When Willie is first seen in his crib there is a tabby cat with him. You only ever see the upper half of the cat’s face and then a tiny bit of the cat in a long shot. After that the cat disappears.
Final Mewsings: Cats would rather make themselves scarce then get involved in family feuds.
