People on Sunday (1930)

by Linda Kay

Original title: Menschen am Sonntag

Directed by: Robert Siodmak, Edgar G. Ulmer

Synopsis: A unique film experiment in which real people play the main parts, showing the activities of five young Berliners and what they do on a leisurely Sunday.

Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): On the Saturday before, film extra Christl Ehlers meets wine seller Wolfgang von Waltershausen and they agree to go out the next day. As Christl is returning home to her apartment a woman (most likely her landlady) is standing outside holding a fidgety bicolor tabby cat.

Christl pauses to greet and even shake the back leg of the kitty, which seems to make the poor cat even more anxious to get away.
