Cat Out of the Bag Alert!  This review contains some spoilers for this film!

Synopsis: The sequel to the Stephen King book-based film finds a teen-aged boy named Jeff Matthews (Edward Furlong) arriving in his deceased mother’s hometown with his veterinarian dad Chase (Anthony Edwards) only to find strange things happening.

Purr Blur: When Jeff walks into the back of the deserted veterinarian’s office where his dad plans to open his new business, he is startled by a tabby cat which suddenly leaps from a cardboard box in true spring-loaded cat fashion.

Cat Burglars (Scene Stealers):  After the mother cat has run away, Jeff discovers the box contains several tabby kittens. Jeff picks out one of the kittens for his own. He then moves the box to the floor to start cleaning.

One of the kittens gets out of the box (presumably the one Jeff picked out) and scampers across the floor, finally reaching the front door where he encounters a dog.

The dog chases the kitten back into the offices and the kitten hides under a table cart. The dog tries to get at the kitten but the kitten hisses and scratches defiantly.

The dog, whose name is Zowie, belongs to a boy named Drew (Jason McGuire). He and his father, police officer Gus Gilbert (Clancy Brown) have brought the dog in to be checked. Gus doesn’t really care about the dog, though, and is clearly not very nice, although he does pet Jeff’s kitten.

Later Jeff takes the kitten with him to school and hides him in his jacket.

This proves to be a bad idea when Jeff is confronted by the school bullies led by a brute named Clyde (Jared Rushton). Clyde asks the kitten’s name. “Tiger,” Jeff answered. “Isn’t that a pussy name?” Clyde asks. Clyde asks to hold tiger and then runs off with the kitten. The boys jumps on their bikes and peddle away with Jeff chasing them.

They end up at the regular pet cemetary and after Jeff fights with Clyde he finds Tiger okay inside a bird cage nearby.

From then on Tiger is seen safely with Jeff at home until the very end when the house has burned down. Fortunately Tiger survives and Chase hands the kitten to Jeff before they drive out of town.

Kitty Carnage Warning!  Unfortunately Tiger’s brothers and sisters don’t fare so well. They are inside their cages when Zowie, who has been killed by Gus and buried in the secret Pet Sematary by Drew and Jeff and re-animated, is locked in a nearby cage. Later in the film a woman and her two daughters show up to adopt one of the kittens. When they walk into the back they scream in horror. Chase then sees that Zowie has broken out of his cage and torn the kittens to pieces. This is shown very graphically, although it should be noted the kitten pieces were of course fake.

Bonus Cat Corpse:  There is also another dead cat seen in the film when Chase visits the former veterinarian who worked in the town. A couple of his very badly done taxidermy animals are shown, including that of a wildly crazy looking black cat.

Final Mewsings: I guess we should be happy at least one kitten survived the movie!
