Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: One of the segments from the feature film Make Mine Music, this is the animated telling of the Russian fairy tale set to music written by Sergei Prokofiev. Peter is a small boy who sets out one day with his animal friends to hunt for the wolf.
Cartoon Cat: All of the characters in the piece are represented by different instruments and Ivan the cat is portrayed by the clarinet. Ivan first shows up walking through some reeds.
Ivan chases after Sasha the bird and tries to eat him, much to Peter’s consternation.
Peter, Sasha, Sonja the duck and Ivan go searching for the wolf and quickly find him.
The band sticks together, with Ivan and Sonja fighting for position next to Peter.
The wolf threatens them and they scatter.
The others cry from the safety of a tree branch when Sonja the duck appears to have been killed.
Sasha is in danger next and Peter lowers Ivan by rope to tie one end to the wolf’s tail.
Ivan works with Peter as they struggle to hold on to the wolf by the tail.
The wolf manages to climb on the branch where Peter and Ivan cower.
When Sasha gets the attention of the hunters they arrive and are amazed to see that Peter and Ivan have managed to capture the wolf!
The party parades back into town the heroes, with Ivan proudly proceeding the captured wolf.
Final Mewsings: Cats can hold their own against bigger predators.
