Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Inspector Marc Ferrot (Yves Montand) falls for the mysterious Sylvia (Stefania Sandrelli) only to become disillusioned when he realizes she is seeing another man. What he doesn’t know is that other man is his boss, Commissaire Ganay (François Périer), and when Ferrot finds Sylvia dead he has to figure out how to avoid being charged with the murder, which Ganay is determined to pin on him.
Cat Cattle Call: On the fateful night of Sylvia’s murder, Ferrot confronts her outside her building and leaves in anger, not realizing Ganay is waiting for her upstairs in her apartment. As Ferrot storms to his car he passes a group of feral cats eating from some dishes of food left out for them. He is so distracted by the cats he doesn’t realize he drops his glove on the ground.

Moments later an elderly woman (Gabrielle Doulcet) approaches the cats as Ferrot drives away. She picks up the glove and bemoans that the rich never lose their money before approaching the kitties, whom she has clearly been feeding. Later we learn she has become a eye witness and turns in Ferrot’s glove as evidence.
