Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Police detective Bruce Kenner (Ethan Hawke) and psychoanalyst Kenneth Raines (David Thewlis) investigate the rape of a young girl who points fingers at her father but implies there may also be a satanic cult involved.
Cat Cattle Call: Detective Kenner visits the home of the girl named Angela Gray (Emma Watson). She lives with her father and grandmother Rose (Dale Dickey) who is first seen sitting at the kitchen table holding a gray tabby cat named Lacy.
As Kenner walks through the old home there are at least two other cats, although the meowing makes it sound as if there are more.
In the course of their investigation, Kenner and Raines visit Angela’s brother Roy (Devon Bostick) in Pittsburgh. As they interview Roy in his makeshift home he pets a calico cat.
Acting upon information from Angela, the police search her family’s home, much to Rose’s consternation. She is petting Lacy at the kitchen table but sets the cat down to go outside and talk to the police.
Later Rose hears Lacy meowing and crying from somewhere outside. She gets up from her bed, leaving her other cats.
Approaching the barn, Rose shines a flashlight inside and sees Lacy.
Suddenly she is shocked by the appearance of a demon cat.
Late in the film Kenner seems to be attending a satanic ritual. A black cat is sitting on the table but as the camera pans behind a person it changes into a baby.
Final Mewsings: Cats prefer to be left out of the whole Satanic thing.
