Synopsis: Londoner Graham Merill (Bill Travers) is intrigued by an otter he sees in a pet shop window and he adopts the animal. He soon realizes that a London apartment is not the ideal setting for his new pet, Mij, so he moves to a small cottage on the Scottish coast. There he meets the town doctor (Virginia McKenna) and a lasting friendship is formed in this sweet story. (Please note, if you’re an animal lover this story is ultimately a heartbreaker, so be forewarned!)
Kitty Cameo: In one scene near the middle of the film we see a female postal clerk waiting on a local customer, also an older women. The two are discussing the strangeness of Graham having an otter as a pet, at the same time the clerk pats her cat, which is lying on a pillow on the counter beside her.
Final Mewsings: Cats don’t like little old ladies who gossip . . . they disturb their naps.
