Rio (2011)

by Linda Kay

Directed by: Carlos Saldanha

Synopsis: A macaw named Blu (voiced by Jesse Eisenberg) is found and raised by bibliophile Linda (voiced by Leslie Mann) who is later approached by ornithologist Tulio (voiced by Rodrigo Santoro) with the bombshell that her parrot is the only living male left of his species. They travel to Rio to connect Blu with the only living female, Jewel (voiced by Anne Hathaway) but the birds end up having to outwit and evade poachers wanting to sell them for profit.

Cartoon Cat: As Blu and Jewel are running away from the poacher’s henchmen, they see a stray cat on the street ahead of them.

Blu barks like a dog which startles the cat into leaping up and landing on bad guys Armanda and Tipa, delaying them for a few seconds.

According to the Wiki for the film, the cat’s name was Clyde on the model sheets and he originally had a slightly larger part in the script as a cat belonging to Linda’s aunt who was supposed to appear at a veterinarian’s office.

Final Mewsings: Cats don’t like having their parts trimmed down to almost nothing.
