River’s Edge (1986)

Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains spoilers for this film!

Synopsis: A group of high school students are eerily unaffected when they learn one of their friends, John (Daniel Roebuck) has killed a classmate.

Kitty Cameo: John’s friend Layne (Crispin Glover) hides John at the house of an outcast named Feck (Dennis Hopper) who often gives dope to the teens. While there, John finds a long-haired tabby and white cat. “We could get it stoned,” John suggests.

Feck tells John to sit down. The boy does, holding and petting the cat as Feck reminds him that he is not supposed to leave.

John then lifts the cat and pushes it at Feck’s blow up doll, Ellie. Feck is furious, telling John to stop and pointing out that cat’s have claws. He tells John to get the cat out of there but John quietly says, “No. Let it explore.” The cat is not seen again.

Final Mewsings: The cat had probably seen all it wanted in that house!
