Ultra Film
Starring: Peter Gonzales, Fiona Florence, Pia De Doses
Directed by: Federico Fellini
Synopsis: Fellini’s surreal and semi-autobiographical look at the city of Rome, both of his childhood and adult life.
Kitty Cameo: Fellini makes several references to cats in this film, as well as showing a few. When Fellini moves to Rome as a young man he arrives at the crowded home where he is to stay. In the kitchen a cat is sitting upon the table.
Cat Corpse (with obvious Kitty Carnage Warning!): One scene takes place in a music hall during a burlesque show and amateur hour. Several men in the audience are viciously heckling the performers onstage. While a man is doing a tap dancing act, someone comes into the theater and hands one of these men a cat that appears to be dead.
A moment later the man stands up and swings the cat by the tail and throws it on the stage.
The dead cat lands on the stage. The performer picks up the cat and throws it back at the audience member. It would appear a fake cat was used for this scene. It is unlikely Fellini would have killed a cat for this scene, as it has been said the director was known to feed the stray cats at Cinecittá.
Purr Blurs: Later in some modern day shots of Roman streets several cats can be seen in the background.
A cat can also be seen sitting on a windowsill as some drunken soldiers walk past.
Final Mewsings: Hecklers should have more respect for dead cats!
