Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains spoilers for this episode!
Synopsis: A couple (Steve Martin and Victoria Jackson) discover their cat Toonces can drive a car.
Featured Feline: This is the first appearance of Toonces the Driving Cat, who would become a popular recurring character on Saturday Night Live. The sketch is a spoof of wacky 60’s sitcoms centered on an unusual character or situation. In the establishing theme song the cat behind the wheel is a real tabby cat, although the paws on the steering wheel are fake.
For the rest of the sketch, Toonces is played by a cat puppet. In this episode, Toonces takes the couple out for a ride and then crashes over a cliff. Later in a preview of the next episode, he crashes over a cliff with his driving test instructor (Kevin Nealon).
Final Mewsings: If cats could drive they’d go to the store to buy some cat food.
