Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: A Foreign Legion mercenary named Guy (Dennis Quaid) is hardened by a personal tragedy but begins to soften when confronted by the horrors of the war in Serbia.
Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): Guy saves a pregnant Serbian woman named Vera (Natasa Ninkovic) from being murdered and delivers her baby. They travel together trying to reach a Red Cross outpost. Hoping to catch a bus to safety, Guy hides with the baby girl while Vera leaves to get information. When Guy climbs into a nearby abandoned boat, a small orange and white tabby cat is inside.
The cat meows at Guy, who picks the tabby up from a bed and sets the kitty aside so he can lay down with the baby.
Eventually the cat jumps up onto a table and disappears.
Some time later Vera returns as a prisoner of a particularly vicious group of Croatian soldiers who end up killing everyone. Guy is still hiding in the boat with the baby when the infant begins to cry. This attracts the attention of the Croatian leader who approaches the boat. Guy hides with the baby in the hold as the man climbs aboard. It appears they are going to be discovered when the cat suddenly jumps in front of Guy. He pushes the cat toward the door and the leader relaxes when the cat emerges.
The man then picks up the cat and even takes the animal with him when the soldiers leave!
Final Mewsings: Cats can be our saviors!
