English Title: The Junk Shop
Filmové studio Barrandov
Starring: Václav Halama, Frantisek Ketzek
Directed by: Juraj Herz
Synopsis: A surreal comedy short focusing on a junk shop (or rather a recycling center) in which an eclectic group of characters interact.
Purr Blurs: At one point in the film, the Chief (Frantisek Ketzek) is seen arguing with the local animal control man. The Chief insists he only has two cats in the shop and one tomcat that went to commit suicide in the river, but the catcher and his worker have a cageful of cats behind them and explains that twelve tomcats is not allowed.
There is more dialogue about the cats, including the animal control worker’s less than subtle description of how the cats may be euthanized.
A non-live cat shout out must be made to the animated tin sign which appears at the beginning of the film and several times throughout. Too cute!
Final Mewsings: Cats should be recycled, not destroyed!
