Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Angela Anderson (Sharon Stone) suffers from repressed memories of a horrific experience which come into focus after a new set of terrifying events.
Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): Angela owns a black cat named Midnight. The cat runs up to meet her when she returns to her apartment after being attacked in the elevator. Her neighbor, Alex (Steve Railsback) accompanies her.
They look around her apartment to make sure everything is safe. They pause in the workroom where Angela repairs dolls.
Angela takes Midnight into the kitchen and gets him something to eat while also getting Alex a soda.
In a later scene, Alex leaves Angela at her apartment. When she closes and locks the door, she accidentally steps on the cat (off screen) who lets out a Poor Cat Screech. He rubs against her legs, hoping for food. “You’re always hungry,” she comments, scooping him up and taking him into the kitchen.
Still later Angela pets Midnight and then stares at one of her dolls, a pig hand puppet which has some secret significance for her.
After Angela is trapped in a bizarre apartment away from home, Alex comes looking for her. He hears Midnight meowing and scratching on the other side of her door.
Alex slips a note under the door and leaves.
Sometime later Alex returns. This time Midnight sounds even more desperate.
Worried about Angela, Alex climbs over onto her balcony and enters her apartment. Midnight is anxiously waiting for him.
He takes the cat into the kitchen and finds him an open can of cat food in the refrigerator.
Even though Midnight has a prominent role in the film, he is uncredited. What is even worse is a raven who shares a few scenes in the bizarre apartment does receive on screen credit (albeit Jimmy the Crow was a star, having appeared in more than 125 projects throughout his career). The animals were provided by Frank and Moe DiSesso.
Final Mewsings: The cat actor needed a better agent!
Many thanks to Mark Murton for letting us know about the cat in this film.
