Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains spoilers for this episode!
Synopsis: The gang, Dory (Alia Shawkat), Drew (John Reynolds), Elliott (John Early) and Portia (Meredith Hagner), need to find $60,000 pronto to pay off their blackmailer. Meanwhile, on the other side of town, Detective Joy Hartman (Tymberlee Hill) is in pursuit of Fat Frankie.
Kitty Cameos: Dory and Drew’s neighbour April (Phoebe Tyers) has recorded one of their screaming fights where Dory admits to killing private investigator Keith Powell and she now wants $60,000 in 48 hours in exchange for the tape. With no way of finding the money, the gang decide they’ll wait for April to leave her apartment, then Dory and Drew will break in and find the tape, while Elliott and Portia follow April and try to delay her if she looks like returning. The foursome then repair to a pet shop across the street from April’s apartment where they cuddle with a litter of kittens while waiting for April to show up.
While Drews, Portia and Elliot make a fuss of their kittens, Dory just strokes the one remaining in the cage.
A cat-loving pet shop worker named Kennifer (Diedre Friel) tries to talk them into taking the kitties but they stall for more time.
Eventually Dory spots April’s return and they duck down to prevent being seen by her.
And the others gently return the cats to their cage.
Meanwhile, in a separate but related storyline, Detective Hartman, following a tip, is trailing a fat man named Frankie. Witnessing a rendezvous in a church, Hartman starts to explore, and hearing a noise behind a closed door she reaches for her gun as she yanks open the door . . . only to be confronted by the sight of a black cat at the bottom of a short flight of stairs.
Final Mewsings: Stake outs are more fun with cats!
