Universal Pictures
Starring: Joseph Fiennes, Gwyneth Paltrow, Joe Roberts
Directed by: John Madden
Synopsis: A young William Shakespeare (Joseph Fiennes) is a struggling playwright working for the Rose theater when he finds his muse in the lovely Viola De Lesseps (Gwyneth Paltrow) and is inspired to write one of his most famous plays.
Kitty Cameo: While casting the play, Shakespeare kicks out the young man who is slated to play Ethel, the pirate’s daughter. Later Shakespeare sees the young man sitting outside with several mice on and around him. Asked his name and whether or not he has ever acted before, the young man says his name is John Webster (Joe Roberts) and that he appeared in Titus Andronicus. He then holds up one of the mice as he calls over a black cat.
John Webster goes on to talk about how when he writes plays they will be violent as he continues to dangle the mouse in front of the cat (John Webster would go on to be a famous playwright, noted for his bloody and gory works). As Shakespeare walks away, the cat screeches, leaving one to wonder what John Webster did to the animal!
Final Mewsings: Cats should not trust sadistic aspiring playwrights.
