TriStar Pictures
Starring: Ally Sheedy, Steve Guttenberg, Tim Blaney
Directed by: John Badham
Synopsis: Number 5 (voiced by Tim Blaney) is a military robot who is struck by lightning and heads off base, looking for answers as to why he is now different.
Cat Cattle Call: Number 5 ends up at the home of Stephanie Speck (Ally Sheedy), an open-hearted liberal who takes in every stray animal around. As such she has countless cats and kittens in her home.
I mean, a ridiculous amount of cats and kittens in her home!
In fact, nearly every single shot in her home seems to include a cat.
The cats always seem to be strategically placed around the room on top of shelves, tables and furniture, probably to make sure they didn’t get beneath the treads of the robot prop. Most of the cats appear to be eating food placed in the spots to keep them in place.
There are several other animals around the house, such as a skunk, rabbits, a ferret and a dog, but the cats are the most prolific animals present, seen both inside and outside the home.
Final Mewsings: Someone cast cats in this film the way Cecil B. DeMille cast extras!
